Dell EMC World - ServerCraft

at Dell EMC World, when attendees are not in a Keynote, a workshop, or the expo hall; they can be found relaxing in The Village, aka “Disneyland for IT”. Eager for a playful way to tell the story of digital transformation, Inhance built a custom-mod for Minecraft. In Servercraft, players find themselves in Rack City, surrounded by towers of antiquated technology (that look like actual server racks and IT appliances). To upgrade Rack City, players must find and replace outdated technology with state-of-the-art components and software. Unfortunately, an evil organization feeds off the inefficiencies of legacy hardware and is working to maintain the status-quo. Working alone or in teams, players must upgrade and defend each rack until it is entirely converted (it then connects to the cloud as is temporarily impervious to attack). Originally designed as a playful distraction, the game was designed for 30-60 minutes of play with high scores expected to be in the 600-900 point range. At the close of the show, hundreds had played and the top slot on the leaderboard had over 15,000 points. DellEMC was blown away by the response and is eager to see if the game can live on between shows.
